Police arrest teen linked to fatal wreck
A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter after a Monday wreck that killed his passenger, officials said.
Pittsburg resident Ishmael Max Hernandez, 17, died at the scene.
Authorities would not release the boy's name because he is a juvenile, said Highway Patrol Officer Don Oxley. In addition, he was cited on suspicion of gross negligence and violating the terms of his provisional driver's license.
The suspect was driving a 2000 Ford Mustang convertible on Sherman Island Road when he ran a stop sign at a T-intersection with Highway 160, witnesses told the CHP.
A pickup and a two-axle commercial truck hit the car about 3 p.m., Oxley said.
Hernandez, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected and suffered head injuries, authorities said.
The driver and another passenger were treated at hospitals for minor injuries, Oxley said. He would not release the name of the other passenger in the back seat, a 17-year-old boy who had a bruised head. Both survivors wore seat belts, Oxley said.
